The Prophecy - What is Hell?

Image
Jealous of humans, the archangel Gabriel (Christopher Walken) leads a second rebellion against God, sparking a war in Heaven that lasts for thousands of years and transforms Paradise into a battleground. When Gabriel comes close to acquiring a new super-weapon, Lucifer (Viggo Mortensen) decides that enough is enough, and approaches fallen priest Thomas Daggett (Elias Koteas) with advice on how to beat Gabriel and end the war. At the same time, he shares some unique spiritual insights. Lucifer: Do you know what Hell really is, Thomas? It's not lakes of burning oil or chains of ice. It's being removed from God's sight, having His word taken away from you.

Will you really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it? Far be it from you to do such a thing—to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do right?” The Lord said, “If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole place for their sake.” Genesis 18:23-26

Finally he is summoned for a meeting with the pastor of his sister church, Reverend Joel Jeffers (Cedric Antonio Kyles), to address his lifestyle and behaviour. Jeffers: 'You're always in the Garden. Even Jesus wasn't always in the Garden, on his knees, sweating blood. He was on the Mount. He was in the marketplace. He was in the temple. But you, you're always in the Garden. For you every hour is the Darkest Hour.' Toller: 'I wasn't aware that I had offended.' Jeffers: 'Jesus doesn't want our suffering. - He suffered for us. He wants our commitment and our obedience.'
